"For the longest time, moths have been associated with death. This is especially prevalent in European cultures.

In Irish folklore, for example, if a moth lands on an animal, it is said that the animal will die. Another belief indicates that if a moth enters the house of a sick person, that person will die. Others believe that a moth causes death only if it flies to all four corners of the house.

This is likely because they are nocturnal creatures– dark and mystifying, like the idea of death.

Butterflies, on the other hand, symbolise rebirth, change and new beginnings."
